How is ICSE percentage calculated?
For ICSE (Class 10), the percentage is worked out on your best five subjects. English is compulsory and is always counted, then the four highest-scoring subjects from the rest are added. Every subject is marked out of 100, so the maximum total is 500.

Best five = 88 + 94 + 91 + 85 + 82 = 440. Percentage = 440 ÷ 500 × 100 = 88%. The Science score of 79 is left out because it is the lowest.
English, Science and Social Studies count as one subject each
English is usually taken as the average of Language and Literature, Science as the average of Physics, Chemistry and Biology, and Social Studies as the average of History & Civics and Geography. The percentage bands are the commonly used approximation. Grades 1 and 2 are rated Very Good, 3 to 5 Credit, 6 and 7 Pass, and 8 and 9 are fail grades. A student needs at least Grade 7 in a subject for it to count as a pass.
